I already know that I should remove the cover from the top LED when I want to scan stripes of film, thanks Never used any buttons on the scanner except for the on/off-switch, but this probably has nothing to do with my software problem. Looks like I'll give another reinstall a try and make sure everything goes where it should. I hope you are successful in getting things working again.

I did have to use the provided slide holder in order to get it to work, and remove the cover over the light in the lid, but all worked (in Home mode - I didn't try others) as it should. Pressing any of the buttons on the V500 Photo Scanner now opens the appropriate part of the scanner app (PDF, print, or email). So I downloaded new driver, Scan Utility and Event Manager from Epson's website. I just tried the version of Epson Event Manager that worked (somewhat) in Win 7 to no avail.

Each button has a specific function for: document scanning copying documents directly to your printer converting a document as an email attachment and converting documents into PDF files (which I found especially useful). Two powerful features are especially impressive: Digital ICE to remove dust and scratches from film and Easy Photo Fix technology to remove dust and magically restore color to faded photographs. The three levels share some common features but the professional level provides the most options for image correction. The interface has three levels of sophistication for the beginner, intermediate, or professional. It can be used as a standalone desktop application or accessed through third-party imaging applications, such as Photoshop. The Epson scan driver is easy to use and quite good. The lid can also be removed or raised to accommodate scanning 3D objects. When raised, the lid locks in place, freeing your hands to arrange documents. The glass document bed measures 8.5Г—11.7вЂі. The film holders are anchored for exact alignment with the lidвЂ™s built-in light source. With USB 2 connectivity, the V500 scans both reflective copy and film from 35mm through medium format. This is the first Epson scanner to use the faster LED (light-emitting diode) as its light source, eliminating the conventional warm-up time. The Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner does a reassuringly professional job of archiving valuable documents that people cherish and try to save when natural catastrophes hit.
